Oma’s brother praises PNM

CHUTNEY artiste Hansraj Ramkissoon — brother of UNC Alliance political leader Basdeo Panday’s wife Oma Panday – was full of praise for Government on the promotion of Indian Culture locally.

At the auditions of the annual National Chutney Monarch competition organised by the National Chutney Foundation held at the Triangle in Aranjuez last Friday, Ramkissoon took the audience by surprise with his rendition: “Power of the Voting Finger” in which he praised Government for what it was doing to promote Indian culture locally.

Ramkissoon who resides in Fort Lauderdale, USA, said that he will be voting in this year’s General Election as he too would like to change the politics of this country. He entered the competition with his own composition and has qualified for the grand finals carded for September 22 at Guaracara Park in Point-a-Pierre.

“I have been travelling back and forth for many years and I think the present government is now doing a lot for the performing artistes of this country,” he said, as he endorsed Government’s cultural programmes and initiatives.

Asked how he rated his brother-in-law Basdeo Panday’s stint as Prime Minister as compared to others, Ramkissoon replied: “Just where the people say he is. I have no quarrel with the Pandays. We are family and I have no more to say on that topic.”

He noted that while he praised the present government he is not condemning any of the other political parties. “I am an artiste and I would gladly sing on any platform if I am invited,” Ramkissoon said. He emphasised that his song will be a bombshell when he sings in the finals.

When asked whether he would talk about inflation or any other problems that the country is now facing he simply said that he purchased stuff in US currency and is not aware that food prices had risen locally.

He said that there are individuals who will do anything to have power and many of the politicians are fighting for power.
