The niece of local cricket hero Brian Charles Lara was held against her will on Saturday night by gunmen in Tunapuna.
Police said Adana Lara was sitting in a car with a friend (a soldier) under the “Big Tree” on El Dorado Road, Tunapuna, at around 11.30.
Two men armed with guns confronted the couple in the car and ordered the soldier to get into the back seat.
One sat in the front with Lara.
The gunman was driving the car along Karamath Street with the couple when a struggle started. The soldier jumped out of the moving vehicle.
The car was then driven off with Lara in it. The soldier immediately reported the matter to Tunapuna Police.
The car was found in Upper Caura Village, at around 5.30 am with some of the parts missing. Officers combed the area and found Lara alone, bound and gagged in an abandoned house.
She was taken to the station and assisted the police with inquiries.
No arrest has been made so far.
